HELENA SOUBEYRAND, ACTRESS AND ILLUSTRATOR

Welcome to the Cercle des Créatrices Inspirées where I meet sunny women to discuss creativity, art, self-confidence and entrepreneurship.

Margaux : I had the chance to chat with Helena Soubeyrand , illustrator and actress.
Passionate about drawing and cinema from an early age, she pursued a career as an actress while persevering in illustration for her personal pleasure. It is only years later, following the advice of her sister, that she launches out and shares her works on social networks – for which she will only have positive feedback.
Today, Helena is a fulfilled mom, actress, illustrator.
During this interview, she shares with us her passion, her relationship to art, her inspirations, and discusses dreams and self-confidence.

I hope it will inspire you, too, to listen to yourself, to gain self-confidence, and to follow what drives you and makes you vibrate!

Margaux: Can you introduce yourself?

Helena: My name is Helena Soubeyrand, I am an actress and illustrator.

Margaux: What relationship do you have with cinema and your job as an actress?

Helena: At the time, being multidisciplinary was not yet democratized, you had to choose an artistic profession. So I opted for comedy.
As an actress, I found myself quite hidden, because it wasn't my text, not my staging, not my light, it wasn't even me. It is a profession where there are also many disappointments.

ITO EARRING

Margaux: What place does drawing occupy in your life?

Helena: With my studies and then my job as an actress, I missed drawing a lot because it's a practice that makes me feel good, and I had left it aside for too long.
At a certain point in my career, I needed to attach myself to something, to take over the reins, to no longer wait for someone's approval to blossom, and to resume my creation and my blossoming.
I'm really doing it for the sake of somehow regaining a childlike joy - that's how it came back.

Margaux: What are your favorite subjects and materials?

Helena: I draw a lot of faces, so I rather try to diversify techniques and materials.
I really like working with oil pastels, especially ambidextrous because it slides, they are very pigmented - I like working on layers of pigment so I can alternate colors and go over one another.
Drawing ambidextrously also makes things more human since they are imperfect.
I also worked on video with mirrors and water, with acrylic.

Margaux: What did all this bring you?

Helena: By coming out of myself and sharing, I met fascinating people, I collaborated with houses whose history I admired, and that brought me a lot.
The key to getting rich is getting out of yourself.

Margaux: As a young mother, what was the impact of the birth of your daughter on your life?

Helena: I am very fulfilled in my life, in my couple, in my family, I am a very fulfilled mother.
After giving birth, you realize what you are capable of overcoming, of what you are capable of living, of enduring. It's a crazy love that you receive and feel, it nourished me in a unique way. He also gave me a lot of confidence, and my whole scale of priorities changed; I have a lot more perspective on life.

Margaux: Where do you draw your strength, your daily motivation?

Helena: The phrase I repeat all the time is "Good luck, bad luck, who knows?". It's all subjective, it's all a matter of perspective. Very often we think that a certain moment is a failure, but ultimately it is because we have been there that we will access what we want even more.
What is needed is to do. Do for yourself, no matter what others think.

Margaux: Do you have a dream in life?

Helena: My dream would be to have a real workshop, to be able to have fun on huge formats and to be able to come out of it with enough to make an exhibition. It would be really, really my dream.
